Recent Retiree Deaths

Gilbert B. "Bert" North, 93, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015.
North, Gilbert B. Died peacefully at his home on Thurs., April 30, 2015. Born near Winchester, IL in 1922 and married Martha Rose Jaspering in 1955. Preceded in death by son Tom, 1997, daughter Linda, 1999 and his twin brother Warren J. North. Gilbert earned his B.S. in Aero Eng at Purdue in 1947, was a member of Acacia, Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, Phi Eta Sigma, Scabbard and Blade, rifle team and a 1952 graduate of USN Test Pilot School. He served during WWII as Army Combat Engineer and Fighter Pilot and later with Missouri Air National Guard, 110th Fighter Sq.,

Gilbert retired from McDonnell Douglas in 1985 after 38 yrs, was an experimental pilot on XF3H, XF-88, F2H, F3H, and F-101 and managed/flew test programs at Patuxent NAS, Glenview NAS, Kirtland AFB, and Edwards AFB. His engineering assignments included Advanced Design, Mercury, Gemini, F-4, and F-15. On Mercury and Gemini at Cape Canaveral, MDC eng mgr on propulsion, environmental, fuel cell, and cryogenics.

He was a member of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, Air Force Association, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Masons, Scottish Rite and Shriners. Gilbert donated his body to Washington University School of Medicine. Memorial contributions to charity of your choice appreciated. Private arrangements by the ORTMANN STIPANOVICH Funeral Home.

Simos Ioannou , 84, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015.

Simos worked for McDonnell Douglas for many years, mostly on Spacecraft and Missile programs. He was in the Logistics dept., and was a pleasure and lots of fun to work with.
Simos's daughter, Kathy Ioannou sent us information about Simo's death and the upcoming memorial service. Kathy and the family want to be sure that anyone who would like to pay their respects is aware of Simo's passing and has knowledge of the memorial service on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Raymond "Ray" Hill, 93, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015.

Raymond D Hill, Jr., 93, of Cocoa Beach, FL, went to be with Jesus on March 20, 2015. A native of St. Louis, MO, Ray attended Washington University where he received a Bachelor's and Master's in Electrical Engineering and was a member of Theta Xi. He worked for Douglas Aircraft and McDonnell Corporation during the 1940's and 1950's. In 1964, Ray moved with his family to Cocoa Beach and was the Manager of the Florida Division of McDonnell Corporation during Project Gemini and later became Vice President and General Manager of the McDonnell Douglas Ti-Co plant. After retiring from the aerospace industry, Ray was a representative for Janco Greenhouses.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cocoa Beach and Boy Scouts of America and also served in the United States Navy during World War II. He enjoyed golf, photography and restoring cars. Ray was a kind, caring and generous man who loved his family and especially enjoyed being a Grandfather ("Poppy"). He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Jeanette S. Hill and two sons: Thomas S. and Richard S. Hill. Ray is survived by his two daughter-in-laws: Sharon K. Hill of Merritt Island and Marcia C. Hill of Vero Beach; two grandchildren: Ashley R. Hill and Kristin R. Burri; and great-grandson, Mason T. Burri.

Seaton, Theodore William "Bill", age 86, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015.

Theodore William Seaton, of Saint Peters and Florissant, MO, died on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the age of 86. Loving husband of the late Nancy A. Seaton; beloved son of the late Clarence and Wilhelmina Seaton; devoted father of David P. Seaton, Alan W. Seaton, and Lila M. (Mike) Noble; cherished grandfather of Alan W. Seaton, Jr., Nancy (Cris) Huaman, Carrie (Dan) Kistner, Mary Ellen “Molly” Noble, and John Noble; treasured great-grandfather of William Kistner and Evelyn Kistner; dear uncle, and kind friend to many. He is preceded in death by his siblings Jane Seaton, Donald Seaton, Lila Mae Seaton, Marion Seaton, Stanley Seaton, and Allen Seaton.

Theodore William, known as “Bill” was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. As a child in the 30’s, Theodore would go to the Old Sportsman’s Park at Dodier and North Grand , and watch baseball with his brothers and the neighbor kids every summer weekend, all day long, sometimes even during the week. Bill and his sons, David and Alan, attended the last game at Sportsman’s Park in May 1966, and the first game at the new Busch Memorial Stadium downtown a few days later.

“Bill” Seaton worked at McDonnell Aircraft in North St. Louis County for 35+ years, and worked on such high profile projects in the NASA Space program such as Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo, and America’s first space station, Skylab.

Always thinking of others, Dad worked to make others happy.

Moorehead, Richard B., age 87, passed away Tues, March 3, 2015.
Beloved husband of Jenean L. Moorehead (nee Oakleaf), dear father of Geoffrey (Jennifer)Moorehead, Lisa (Greg) Howard and Tim (Konia) Moorehead, dear grandfather of Clare and Kate Moorehead, Ross and Annie Howard, Andrew and Bailey Moorehead, dear brother of the late Toni Glaze.

Richard worked at McDonnell Aircraft/McDonnell Douglas (MDC) in Aircraft Design. Much of his time at MDC was in the F4H cockpit Equipment design group. Most of his friends and teammates knew him as "Red Sox" or "Dick". Richard retired from McDonnell-Douglas after a lengthy career.

Memorial service Fri., March 6, 11 am at Webster Hills United Methodist Church, 698 W. Lockwood, 63119. Private interment, National Cemetery. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Ass’n., 9370 Olive Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132.

Powers, John (Jack) Ransford 90, a longtime St. Louis resident and decorated WW II and Korean War veteran who served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Marines, died peacefully, Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, in Scottsdale, AZ, where he had lived for the past 10 years. Born in Chicago, July 14, 1924, Jack had a love of aviation from the time he was a little boy, and had a 30year career at McDonnell-Douglas. He was predeceased by his wife, Marijane. He is survived by his daughters Barbara Berry of Kirkwood and Mary Viginia Powell of Pasadena, CA; brother, Rance (Wilma) Powers of Chicago, grandsons Patrick Berry and Brian Grass and great-grandchildren, Jack and Francie Berry. Jack was predeceased by his sister, Mary Jean Farley, and brothers Donald Powers and Thomas Powers. Loving uncle and friend to many and a proud American. Services: Visitation at Kriegshauser West, 9450 Olive Blvd., on Friday. Feb. 27. From, 9:30 am until time of service at 11:30 am. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Flynn, Clayton Burris Jr.82 passed away, Saturday, February 7, 2015. Beloved husband for 63 years of Helen Flynn (nee Faulconer); loving father of Darrell and Jeffrey Flynn and Rhonda (David) Meczkowski; cherished grandfather of Chelsea and Morgan Meczkowski and Megan Flynn. Brother of Robert and Reynolds Flynn. Loving Uncle, Cousin and friend of many.
Clayton had 82 years to touch the lives of those who knew him. He was born in Nicholas County, KY on March 6, 1932. Clayton graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating from the University of Kentucky Clayton served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant. After returning Clayton attended the Florida Institute of Technology with a Masters degree in System Management. He was employed by McDonnell Aircraft Corporation after retiring with 35 years of faithful service. During his time at MCDonnell Douglas he worked on the following programs: Apollo, Gemini, Mercury and Skylab, Tomahawk Missile System. Clayton was a charter member of Chesterfield Community Church since 1973 serving in different capacities. He loved his church and church family.

Services: Funeral service at Chesterfield Community Church, 14647 Ladue Road, Chesterfield, Friday, 10:30 a.m. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.
